- Working on Kim Kardashian's feet has to be considered slavery.
If you've been putting off that manicure, you might want to get it soon, because it looks like nail salons around Ohio are the subject of a human trafficking investigation.
Everyone in your salon of Asian descent? Then perhaps some of the workers are enduring a not-so-pleasant path to the American way. The Ohio Board of Cosmetology director said recently that salons are a hotbed of illegal human trafficking. Immigrants come looking for help, someone sets them up at a salon, and boom... they're working as indentured servants.
The agency that oversees Ohio nail salons says human trafficking is a problem in the industry that has drawn the attention of federal and state investigators.
Ohio Board of Cosmetology executive director Kevin Miller says Asian immigrants are offered help getting to the U.S. and are then forced to work as ''indentured servants'' in Ohio salons.
Miller on Wednesday told a state commission studying human trafficking that he expects indictments and arrests in coming months.
There are apparently problems not only with indentured servants, but salons with fraudulent licenses. Like we said, might want to get one last pedicure before you find your favorite salon boarded up. Might want to leave an extra big tip this time, too.
