
The Akron Beacon Journal made a boo-boo. On Tuesday, the paper reported that both the Stow-Munroe Falls and Nordonia Hills school levies passed. In reality, both failed.
The pathway to this error starts with the education reporter going on vacation, but ends with... well, here's how it happened, in their own words:
The person who watched the results Tuesday night did not know that while most counties’ election reports show “yes” votes on the first line and “no” votes on the second, the Summit board of elections’ computer is unique in that it switches the results to place the largest number first, whether in the affirmative or negative.Although the numbers were properly labeled by the board of elections, the editor did not realize that the final report from the Summit board listed the “no” votes first.
