All Systems Go for ABC the Tavern Uptown

Well, this time it's official: After a few false starts, ABC the Tavern Uptown will open at 4 p.m. this Friday.

"We are ready to roll," says Trace Althoff, GM of not only Uptown, but also Ohio City, Ontario Street Café and XYZ the Tavern. "We are really trying to capture that old-school tavern feel. There is really nothing like this in University Circle."

The locale couldn't be any better. Located a stone's throw from the new Museum of Contemporary Art, ABC will be able to seamlessly synergize with the MOCA's numerous outdoor activities and performances. Also, positioned within walking distance from the campuses of both University Hospital and Cleveland Clinic doesn't hurt either.

But it's the ever-growing residential base of graduate students and young professionals that will likely keep this laid-back tavern buzzing most nights.

This newer version will borrow inspiration from the original Ohio City tavern, with a bowling machine, racy burlesque photos, and rich, repurposed woods. The bar will accommodate approximately 90 guests inside, with room for 25 at the bar. A roomy patio will have room for an additional 60 guests, including separate smoking and non-smoking sections.

Despite the old-time feel, ABC Uptown will be service-forward and budget conscious, "providing guests with everything from an unique craft beer to a Stroh's plus a burger for under 20 bucks," explains Althoff.

The bar will feature 12 draft handles and over 200 bottled beers. A larger kitchen will allow ABC to showcase five or six daily specials on top of its existing burger and dog lineup. Also, look for weekend brunch to be added a few months down the road.

ABC the Tavern Uptown opens at 4 p.m. this Friday, and noon on Saturday, just in time for the Hessler Street Fair and the Case Western Reserve University graduation!
