Beachwood City Councilman Brian Linick has announced his campaign for Mayor of Beachwood. He'll be challenging entrenched current Mayor Merle Gorden, the subject of ongoing financial investigations and Scene's cover story this week. Gorden has been Mayor since 1995 and hasn't been challenged in the Mayoral race since 1997, via Sun News.
Lincik spoke with Scene for the Gorden story prior to his campaign announcement. At the time, he expressed concern that the current leadership had lost respect for public funds. As an elected official, he's willing to take the good with the bad, but expected more restraint from Gorden, whom council gave leeway with spending to increase efficiency.
“When you pass certain ordinances you do so with the expectation that the mayor is going to use discretion with how he spends the money,” said Linick. “It has become clear that he has failed to use that discretion.”
Transparency will be a key component of Linick's platform. The 34-year-old councilman is currently an attorney at Sherwin-Williams. He lives in Beachwood with his wife and two children.
