You remember our big feature this summer chronicling the brazen financial abuses of Beachwood Mayor Merle Gorden? It has remained a fairly controversial story, given Gorden's rabid support base and their contributions to one of the more lively comments sections we've seen this year.
At any rate, Gorden is now throwing caution to the wind and actively campaigning for a fifth mayoral term in the city-owned SUV which he's long since re-appropriated for almost exclusively personal use.
Here's the NEOMG's Mark Naymik:
As recently as last Sunday, Gorden drove the city's 2012 GMC Acadia to Moxie, a high-end Beachwood restaurant, where he was holding a re-election fundraiser.
Last month, he drove the Acadia to Pepper Pike to attend the Gross Schechter Totally Kosher Rib Burn Off. The back of his Acadia was filled with campaign signs, a photograph taken through the window of the vehicle shows. Gorden also frequently drives the Acadia to the Beachwood condominium that is home to his campaign manager Trina Trill.
When Naymik probed Gorden's campaign management group for an answer, they offered up some lame justification about how Gorden's role as safety director necessitates driving the Acadia so he can quote "respond quickly to a city emergency" because the vehicle is outfitted with a radio and light.
As Naymik says: "Truly tortured logic."
