Book About WIXY 1260 Slated for Release

Between organizing last weekend’s Ghoulardi Fest — a retro-kitsch pop-culture orgy held in a larger venue for the sixth year straight — Mike Olszewski and friends have completed WIXY 1260: Pixies, Six Packs, and Supermen, a book about the Cleveland radio station that brought the Beatles, Motown, surf music, and a whole wave of pop culture to Cleveland in the 1960s. Olszewski and radio historian Richard Berg co-wrote, with help from author Carlo Wolff.

“Rich Berg and I wrote the book because WIXY was such an important part of our lives especially during the 1960s,” says Olszewski. “The jocks were as important as the music, and the farther away we got from that era the more we realized how important it was to document its history.”

The book is slated for summer 2011 release, from Kent State’s Black Squirrel Press. — D.X. Ferris
