Burger Bar Saturation Claims its First High-Profile Operator


Eddie 'N Eddie, located on the popular corner of Detroit Road and Warren Avenue in Lakewood, already is undergoing a major change in concept after being open only since August of last year.

The new concept, Cerino's Casual Italian, will be a return to familiar ground for owner Eddie Cerino, who's family for years has run Cerino's restaurant in North Royalton. Eddie himself runs the delightful Pizzeria Cerino in Seven Hills.

"First, we love Lakewood and we love this corner," explains Cerino. "At the time we signed the lease two years ago we chose between a burger concept or an Italian concept. Burgers were hot at the time, but times have changed fast."

Cerino points to a huge surge in burger-themed restaurants, not only in Lakewood but the region. "The burger market has become over saturated," he adds. "We want a concept that is going to complement not compete with other Lakewood restaurants. People have been telling us that they really want great Italian and that's what we are going to do. So why wait?"

The menu will feature classic Italian entrees ranging from $8 to $17, highlighted by numerous house-made pastas and 10-inch signature pizzas. Trading one food trend for another, Cerino says he will tailor his menu to accommodate healthful and allergen-conscious diners.

"People in Lakewood are looking for healthier options and Cerino's Casual Italian will offer quality vegetarian and gluten-free selections," he says. Additionally, fan favorites from Eddie 'N Eddie will linger on, including some burgers, bourbons and apple pie.

Eddie 'N Eddie will close for the last three days of July to allow for design changes and reopen on the first of August.

As for possible tweaks down the road, Cerino says, "This is a better fit for the neighborhood, and we are committed to Lakewood for many years to come."
