Cedar Point has been foreshadowing a big announcement on Sept. 2, and the news has just arrived. Through a rather
cryptic video titled "Darkness Falls on #12." the amusement park reveals that the Mantis will "get squashed" next month. It's unclear what *exactly* that means, though it seems like the Mantis as we all know and love/hate it will no longer exist.
"Take one last stand," as the tagline goes.
(Semi-relatedly possibly, remember that Cedar Point said it will
rename one of its coasters "King James" in the event LeBron returned to the Cavs? Well, he did. No word yet on how the amusement park will follow up on that, though the Mantis news speculatively may play a role.)
Mantis opened in 1996 to much fanfare, breaking records for "stand-up roller coasters" worldwide. For a time, Mantis boasted the tallest vertical loop in the world.
