Police Chief Kelly Stillman spoke this afternoon, though few additional details were available. A source tells us it was pot-related.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation is testing a "controlled substance" that was delivered to Perez's home via the US Postal Service. Stillman acknowledged that the BCI is fairly backlogged with Ariel Castro-related investigations, but he said the results will become public shortly.
At that point, based on the particular drug and the particular amount, the information will be passed along to the city prosecutor. Charges may be filed then.
The Westshore Enforcement Bureau, the U.S. Postal Service's inspectors and the Rocky River Police Department are working together on this matter.
The Tribe is currently in New York City, in the midst of a series against the Yankees. "We have talked with Chris and are currently in the process of gathering additional information," Indians GM Chris Antonetti told Meisel earlier today.
Perez was placed on the DL recently with a shoulder injury. It's unclear if he was caught jumping the gun on Ohio's potential medical marijuana amendment or what.
