Christmas Ale Drinkers Annoy Phildelphians

For years now, we Clevelanders have sung the praises of Great Lakes Brewing Company's Christmas Ale. We delight in picking apart the palate-pleasing flavor nuances of each season's unique batch. We go on and on throughout the holidays hypothesizing the reason for the sudsy quasi-hallucinogenic vibe we're sure the local brew bestows upon us. In a nutshell: Cleveland is very, very proud of Christmas Ale.

But our constant blathering about it is annoying, says Philly Post writer Brian Howard.

Despite the annoyance, Howard gives Christmas Ale the number five spot in his list of the top 12 seasonal brews—outranked only by a U.K. beer, two Michigan microbrews, and Anchor's dark seasonal ale hailing from San Francisco.

Great Lakes Christmas Ale: A new American holiday classic—brewed elegantly with honey and spices by Cleveland’s amazing Great Lakes. No one who drinks this ever stops raving. It’s annoying until you join them.

Obviously, Philadelphia is simply jealous—Howard ranked the lone Philly-made seasonal at number 10.

In any case, if you are hankering to curb your Christmas Ale addiction with a sampling of other hoppy holiday creations from around the world, the top 12 list is worth a look.
