The Cleveland Institute of Music responded to this week's cover story on Cleveland Orchestra concertmaster and CIM teacher Bill Preucil in a letter to students: Date: Thu, 15 Feb 2007 09:48:00 -0500 Subject: Message from President Cerone Dear CIM Student: I would like to bring to your attention an article which appeared in yesterday's edition of *Cleveland* *Scene*, a free entertainment weekly. The article references the Cleveland Institute of Music and one of its esteemed, highly successful and most dedicated faculty members, William Preucil who, as you know, is also concertmaster of The Cleveland Orchestra.he article makes allegations which call into question the learning environment at CIM, to which I provided an official written response on Tuesday, February 6, 2007. While CIM cannot respond to questions about individual personnel or student matters, let me assure you that the Cleveland Institute of Music is absolutely committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment for its students, faculty and staff in which to live, work and learn. We rigorously strive to resolve *all* personnel issues appropriately, decisively and to the satisfaction of the parties involved in accordance with CIM's published policies. Let me take this opportunity to say to you, in no uncertain terms, that your* personal and professional welfare is uppermost in the minds of the CIM faculty, staff and administration, and let me further encourage any of you who may feel uncomfortable in your CIM living environment to come forward to me or to any member of my administrative team to express and discuss your discomfort. I want to assure each of you that CIM remains committed to providing the best instructors and the best educational environment for all of its students. It is CIM's mission to provide exceptionally talented students an outstanding, thoroughly professional education in the art of music performance and related musical disciplines. Sincerely, David Cerone President
