- Yeah, I'm the fourth best hospital in the country, no big deal
As we all know, Cleveland gets ragged on quite often by the national media. Worst winter city in the U.S., continuous jokes about our flammable river, and now with LeBron leaving, the jokes continue to fly. But there is something our city has that we can always be proud of, and that is our hospitals. Specifically, the gem that is the Cleveland Clinic.
The Cleveland Clinic has been named the fourth best hospital in the nation out of 4,852 that were analyzed by U.S. News and World Report. When broken down into specific categories, the Cleveland Clinic shines even brighter. It is ranked No. 1 in heart care and heart surgery, No. 2 in gastroenterology and No. 3 in kidney disorders. All in all, the Clinic was ranked in the top ten in 14 of the 15 specialty categories.
Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore came in at No. 1, as it has for the past 20 years. Hopkins was followed by the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston to round out the top three.
So while our sports teams haven't won a championship since '48, at least our city is really, really good at caring for the ill. And I'd say that's something to be proud of.
