Earlier this week, a man on the run from Cleveland police ended up in Toledo, where he shot and killed a police dog before dying in a standoff with Toledo police. Reginald Marshall, 27, was wanted in Cleveland on murder charges stemming from a May shooting.

Marshall and an unknown man were targeted by Toledo police after reports of a stolen vehicle were made on Wednesday. When police arrived, Marshall, fleeing into a vacant home, shot at the dog. Officer Simon Urbina shot Marshall.

Thousands of comments have poured in over the past day to honor and memorize Falko, the Toledo police dog seen here. He was not yet old enough to be fitted with a  bulletproof vest, according to the police department, though Chief George Kral told the Toledo Blade that a vest probably wouldn't have helped in this case.
