Been meaning to cut back on the booze and do something, you know, active? Get up and out on the water Second Annual Whiskey Island Stand Up Paddleboard Race and Festival on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Lakefront Reservation.

Stand up paddleboarding has been getting pretty popular over the last few years, especially in Northeast Ohio. Unlike surfing, paddleboarding can be done on any body of water, and we've got plenty of that, whether it's the Cuyahoga River or Lake Erie. It's a Cleveland favorite at any time of year.

This event, which is hosted by Cleveland Metroparks in partnership with Nalu Stand Up Paddleboard and Surf, is open to any skill level, including beginners. Anyone interested can register for the six-mile elite race, two-mile challenge, or the kids' dynamic course.

Race registration runs from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. on the day of the festival, so yes, you'll have to get up early. Check out the official event page for more info.

A limited number of paddleboards will be available for rent, along with gear, for $10. Contact Nalu Standup Paddle and Surf at 216-272-1504 for information. The event will also include door prizes, food and live music.
