Cleveland Neighborhoods In Focus at Harris Stanton Gallery's Latest Exhibition

The latest exhibition at Harris Stanton Gallery’s Cleveland location pays tribute to Cleveland neighborhoods. Harris Stanton Gallery has been a staple in Akron for nearly three decades. Owner Meg Harris Stanton recently expanded the gallery’s mission with the opening of a second location in Cleveland’s Warehouse District last year.

“As a relative newcomer to Cleveland I have been impressed with the devotion that native Clevelanders show for their city,” remarks owner Meg Harris Stanton. “This exhibition is a celebration of the renaissance our city is experiencing and the pride we have for our success story. There is a genuine excitement and fervor around the upcoming Republican National Convention as well the continued development and economic rebirth of the downtown area.”

The exhibition includes work by four local artists: Diane Pribojan, Glen Ratusnik, Christine Ries and Tom Roese. Each artist approaches their similar subject matter from unexpectedly different points of view.

Meg Harris Stanton continues, “In putting together this exhibition we looked for four artists that approached the theme in very different ways. The artwork on display is an intimate portrait of the city including; misty views of lakeside parks (Glen Ratusnik); beautifully executed drawings of Tremont (Tom Roese); rich, complex paintings featuring local residents (Christine Ries); and midcentury modern color block paradigms of the city’s suburban architecture(Diane Pribojan).”

“Cleveland neighborhoods offer a plethora of compositional materials,” explains artist Christina Ries. “There is an abundance of odd, steel structures, pockets of communities, beautiful trees, and interesting people. I wanted to make each piece unmistakably ‘Cleveland’ using our Midwest house structures and diverse population as models. I worked to illicit the feeling of the passage of time, comfort and reflection.”

Cleveland Neighborhoods opens with a free, public reception this Friday, Aug. 28 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The artists will be present for the opening, and will participate in a gallery talk around 7 p.m.

Cleveland Neighborhoods remains on view through Sept. 26 during regular gallery hours: Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
