Cleveland: Now in 3D!

The Avengers movie, which was shot in Cleveland this past summer and comes to multiplexes everywhere next summer, is now a 3D movie.

The big-budget superhero bash was originally shot in 2D by director Joss Whedon. The Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor made a huge mess of downtown Cleveland last year fighting bad guys ... in 2D.

The movie was just upgraded to 3D — strictly a business move by the studio handling the movie.

And while yeah, it may sound like a good idea to have the Hulk's fists and Scarlett Johansson's boobs comin' at ya, as nerd site io9 points out, all the 3D stuff is being added post-production, which always looks like total crap.

In other words, we want our 3D movies actually shot in 3D.

Of course, this won't make much difference to all the fanboys and everyone else who'll cram into theaters on May 4 when it opens.

Still, we'll be there with everyone else, checking out Euclid Avenue in 3D, which admittedly we can do just by looking out our window. But a thundering hammer (and yes, Scarlett Johansson's boobs) will make it all the much cooler. —Michael Gallucci
