Cleveland Ranked 6th for Dog Attacks on Postal Workers

The tenuous relationship between canines and mailmen has been fodder for plenty of comedy over the years, but a cursory news search shows just how serious the situation can be. As it turns out vicious, unleashed dogs present a larger threat to postal workers than even other postal workers do.

A little nugget in the Mansfield News Journal provides some harrowing info on dog-on-mailmen crime in NEO: "The Cleveland postal area ranked sixth nationally in the number of dog bite attacks in 2010, prompting a focus this year on prevention." Oof.

Dog Bite Awareness Week is May 15-21, and the post office offers some friendly (and logical) tips to make sure your pooch doesn't land its teeth in the backside of an unsuspecting carrier simply trying to do his or her job. You'd think by now most owners would have learned how to restrain their pups by now (actually, no you wouldn't — people aren't bright), but over 3,000 mailmen bitten by dogs in 2007 alone would prove differently.
