
With only a few exceptions, minor league baseball teams make their bones on promotions. Special foods, special nights, special guests. Especially when you crawl down the farm ladder to Single A.
Some of the promotional gimmicks are better than others, however. Take the Lake County Captains' "Salute to Cleveland Sports History Night," which won ESPN's Minor League Promotion of the Year in 2009.
The premise is simple: Cleveland has a long and bountiful sports history to pull from, and the Captains mine material rich and hilarious, reenacting some of the more notorious moments, correcting wrongs, and bringing in a horde of guests. This year's installment is Sunday night, and it's well worth your time.
