Eric Ivey joins the other cast of characters who have been indicted in connection with the ongoing investigation in to the Cuyahoga County jail and the county's IT department.
The associate warden, his current position after being demoted from head warden earlier this year, faces charges of tampering with evidence and falsification. Ohio's Attorney General's office is handling the investigation now after county prosecutor Michael O'Malley handed it over last year.
Today's indictment, filed during county executive Armond Budish's State of the County speech, dates back to Ivey's actions in August of 2018 involving the death of Joseph Arquillo, an inmate who the coroner said had fentanyl and heroin in his system. Former jail corrections officer Martin Devring was recently indicted in connection with the same death. Prosecutors say Devring failed to conduct his 15-minute rounds and falsified documents to cover up that fact. With regards to Ivey, the AG's office alleges that the warden ordered jail officers to turn off their body cameras during the investigation of Arquillo's death.
