There's nothing like a little public shaming to get people to fulfill their duties as tax payers. That's the thinking today behind a move on the part of Cuyahoga County's new government under Executive Ed FitzGerald. This morning the office blasted out of list of the county's top delinquent property owners — a group dubbed the “Dirty Dozen” by the county.
The pillory-party is going to be a regular thing now, with the county fiscal office updating the list monthly to show who's doing their best to screw the rest of us out of public services. This inaugural batch collectively represents around $7.7 million owed to county schools and governments. In addition to the list, the properties will “receive additional scrutiny by employees in the county treasurer’s office,” so says a release. County Fiscal honcho Wade Steen ran a similar list when he was treasurer of Franklin County.
