Dubbed “the House that Jimmy Built” by astute observers of local politics, the former Cuyahoga County administration building began its journey to rubble on Monday. A duo of monstrous excavators clamped massive jaws around the building’s wreckage, attracting passersby who stood for a moment in the arctic weather to wish the former governmental headquarters a fond farewell.

The plan, in short, is to bring a Hilton hotel to the property at Ontario and Lakeside. In fact, the very body that once inhabited the building is now in the process of funneling millions of public dollars toward Hilton Worldwide for that very cause.

The demo job should be done by early March.
