At a special East Cleveland City Council meeting Monday night, three members were appointed to a special annexation commission that will serve as the East Cleveland contingent on official merger talks with the city of Cleveland.
Andrew Jackson, Chris Glassburn and Sandra Morgan were appointed after an application process and interviews by city council.
In an email this morning, East Cleveland Mayor Gary Norton said that the passed resolution, "which expresses East Cleveland's desire to enter merger discussions" would be forwarded to Cleveland City Council "for reciprocal action."
An additional ordinance required Mayor Gary Norton to deliver a letter to the Cleveland Foundation asking for $50,000-$70,000 in funding for a study by the firm Conway MacKenzie that would assess the finances of a potential merger.
The ball is now Cleveland City Council's court to appoint its own three members.
