FINALLY, Hilton Cleveland Downtown is on Facebook

Signifying its near-completion and readiness for the RNC in July, 2016, the Hilton Cleveland Downtown Hotel has arrived on Facebook.

You can peruse architectural renderings, get your dose of downtown boosterism — BuzzFeed ranks Cleveland third on a list of American cities you didn't know you had to visit! — and read uplifting anecdotes from the construction site.

After you've done all that, you can read Eric Sandy's seminal clip for Scene from November, 2013, explaining why the hotel is an enormous gamble that's not likely to pay off for taxpayers in Cuyahoga County (who are, recall, footing the $260 million bill).

One of our fave Sandy quotes of all time in italics below:

"After city leaders [in Baltimore] realized that they’d have a tough go at the convention business without a convention center hotel, they nailed down plans to fund the $301-million Baltimore Hilton. That was back in 2005, and the hotel hasn’t produced dick for the city, nor has it been able to efficiently pay down its debt service."

There's liable to be a lot of head-scratching after the RNC skips town and the Hilton Cleveland Downtown Hotel can't fill its 600 rooms on anything even resembling a nightly basis.

But hey: at least it'll be able to publicize hot deals on social media.
