Nike will be making a very limited-edition set of t-shirts just for the LeBron James Grandmother Fan Club, which is based in Akron. It's just a poem on the back, written by one of the members of the Akron-based group. From the Beacon Journal story:
'We are printing 200 shirts for the LeBron James Grandmothers Fan Club,'' said Lee Walter, senior merchandise manager, basketball apparel for Nike.''We were inspired by this group's love for LeBron as a role model and their involvement in the community.
''We are shipping the tees so that they arrive by Mother's Day.''
The T-shirts, which are wine-colored like the signature shirts the grandmothers wear now, feature a gold silhouette of James on the front with the words ''The LeBron James Grandmothers Fan Club'' and the Nike logo. LBJ is on one of the sleeves.
On the back is the word ''Witness'' and the poem written by fan-club member Ruth Wine, which reads in part:
When we finally reach the grandma stageWe've spread our love around.First our kids and then their kids and every kid in town.Since every child is special and gifted in their way,The latest kid that touched our heart and brings us so much joyIs 6 foot 8 and could be known as Akron's golden boy.
And lots of green too, right?
