Jani Lane, Akron-Born Warrant Lead Singer, Found Dead in LA (Updated)

  • RIP

Update: Two important followups: 1) The autopsy for Jani Lane was inconclusive. An official cause of death could be two months out. 2) Lane was born John Kennedy Oswald. We did not know that. (Fox 8)

This sad news is heating up the airwaves this morning: In Los Angeles, authorities have confirmed the death of hair metal staple and Northeast Ohioan Jani Lane. Born in Akron, Lane became a household name as the lead singer of Warrant, the 90s long-hair and bandana outfit that floated to fame thanks to hits like “Cherry Pie.”

E! Online (we know, we never thought we'd ever be quoting E! Online as a news source either) says the 47-year-old musician was found dead at a Comfort Inn in Woodland Hills Thursday night. There's no official word on a cause of death, but Lane's last couple years had been rough ones, with reported alcohol problems and a pair of DUIs.

RIP. After the jump, Lane's famous ode to dessert, one last spin.
