We asked whether the U.S. Senate Democratic primary between Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner and Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher could stay civil, and within minutes they proved that it couldn't.
The campaigns spent last week trading barbs about who is accepting money from bailed out banks; why Fisher quit his job as the state's director of development; and why Brunner failed to comply with an FEC filing rule. The sniping was documented Friday by Plain Dealer reporter Stephen Koff.
While the candidates work to discredit each other, the attacks will only serve as ammo for Republican senatorial candidate Rob Portman. The National Republican Senatorial Committee on Friday sent out a press release that merely repeats Koff's story. - Damian Guevara
