John Stossel Has Issues With the West Side Market

Big grocery store at heart of recessions

The latest chapter in America’s continuing series “Cleveland: Who Let It In Here?” comes courtesy of Fox Business Network host John Stossel.

You may recall Stossel for his marvelous facial hair, which was a longtime fixture on ABC’s 20/20. These days, Stossel has taken up fashioning online investigative reports based on random statistics served up by his interns.

Inspired by Forbes magazine’s recent honoring of Cleveland as the most miserable place yet to be liberated by Allied forces, Stossel offered a story on his blog called “Politicians Smother Cities.” And you-know-who gets top billing!

“Cleveland has lost half its population since 1950 and 50,000 in just the last ten years,” explains Stossel helpfully. “Meanwhile, other cities like Indianapolis and Houston thrive. Why? Because politicians in cities like Cleveland smother their citizens with their grand designs.”

And what does Stossel offer as exhibit A of our smotherhood? That reprehensible bastion of Old World culture and affordable food: the West Side Market.
