[image-1]The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) has introduced "RTA CLE," a new app which lets riders plan routes and purchase daily and weekly tickets on their mobile devices.
"Using this free mobile app eliminates the need to stand in line at fare vending machines or at the Customer Service Center," says RTA. "The ability to purchase RTA fare anywhere at any time using a smartphone and credit card is a valued convenience for all customers."
It sure is, though it's worth noting that long lines at the RTA — during the Cavs parade two weeks ago, for instance — generally aren't attributable to hold-ups at the ticketing machines. At any rate, it's a step in the right direction for an agency that's had little but bad news lately.
The app currently lets you purchase an All-Day Fare (Still $5.00 until the August price hike), a 7-Day Fare ($22.50), or a special RNC 7-Day Fare ($20.00). Once you make your purchase, you can activate your ticket directly before your first ride.
The digital transaction process is no doubt welcomed by the swaths of millennials who supposedly love public transit, and it should be a boon for visitors.
Once you've activated the ticket, "simply show your live ticket screen session to operators or have it ready when boarding RTA vehicles" RTA advises.
