Like they say in the movies, never do a scene with kids; child stars will always upstage you. In the case of WJW-TV 8 gumshoe Kathleen Cochrane, the self-admitted "dog person" should stay clear of a supporting cast of feline. It only leads to catfights. Literally.
During the 10 p.m. news on Tuesday, Cochrane was at the Geauga County Humane Society to introduce a piece on a couple convicted of killing two kittens by throwing them out of their moving car. Their sentence: To scoop kitty-crap out of litter boxes for 40 days at the shelter.
Apparently unsatisfied to do the live shot alone, Cochrane idiotically decided to cradle a pissed-off stray cat named Becky. Sensing the inevitable, the station's cat-loving viewers cringed when ol' Beck went berserk.
Cochrane tried to redeem herself during the 6 p.m. newscast on Wednesday, when she sat at the news desk with anchors Lou Maglio and Wilma Smith to exchange "been-there-done-that" repartee and defend herself on her blog.
Becky was "unavailable for comment," according to her agent. She's been getting her nails done. — Cris Glaser
