The Kelly Miller Family Circus events scheduled for July 27 in South Russell have been canceled over apparent safety concerns.

"Multiple threats of gun violence towards this specific event were communicated to advanced ticket sales representatives," according to a statement released by Daniel Beavers, president of the Chagrin Valley Jaycees. No further details were offered.

Separately, more than 600 people signed a change.org petition urging the mayor to cancel the event. The petition cites the transmission of tuberculosis, the potential for escaped animals, and the inevitability of traffic headaches as reasons to boot the circus. A protest was also planned for the July 27 event.
