Kid Cudi's New Song Is Pretty Damn Good

Now that he's put his rap-rock project WZRD behind him (hopefully, far, far behind him), it sounds like Kid Cudi is ready to get serious about his career again.

The new "Just What I Am" is a woozy, thick-beat-sporting beast that recalls some of the best cuts from his 2009 debut Man on the Moon: The End of Day.

And unlike so many of the songs on the 2010 followup, Mr. Rager, "Just What I Am" features Cudi going on and on about what he knows best — basically, himself.

Cudi's rapping partner, King Chip, is another Clevelander — Chip Tha Ripper under a new name.

The track comes from Cudi's upcoming third album, Indicud (yes, that's a marijuana reference), which is due later this year. This is the first taste of the album, and it's a mighty good one. —Michael Gallucci
