Lola's Little Sister

Lolitas Big Bold Board

If you haven't been to Lolita in Tremont lately, you probably haven't tried one of the best salume platters in town: the aptly named Big Board.

According to Executive Chef James Mowcomber, "All the meats offered on our Big Board are house-cured with the exception of the prosciutto, which requires a longer cure." He also credits his Sous Chef, Brad Ball, for making it happen. If you like cured meats, you don't want to miss Lolita's over-the-top presentation. The pate, duck breast prosciutto and soppressata are all notable but I was most impressed with the house-made mortadella with pistachio.

Another appetizer rec is the delectable Venison Carpaccio, with a perfect blend of richness cut by citrus, agrumato and refined with hints of pomegranate, juniper and parsnip.

Lolita offers daily seafood specials. The evening we were there, the special was Seafood Risotto — a hearty dish seasoned with a savory saffron broth. Mussels, shrimp and half a lobster added a robust flavor to the perfectly cooked rice.

With its casual elegance, Lolita has always attracted a range of age groups. It also seems to be a favorite among chefs and service industry peeps. Hipsters have also found their way to the highly coveted bar stools for their early and late happy hours. I dare you to find a better fried egg-topped burger after 10:00 PM for five bucks.
