Local alt-rockers Lovedrug are funding their new album with a little help from you.

It's not exactly a new thing — hundreds of artists are reaching out to their fans to help them foot the bill for recording these days. Singer-songwriter Jill Sobule did it and sang a song whose lyrics consisted of the names of the highest contributors. And local rocker Chris Allen scraped together the cash for his latest album, Acetate, the same way. Folks who gave him some money are listed on the record's sleeve.

Lovedrug are giving their fans a little more in return. Head to, make a donation of $15 or more, and the band will reward you with tons of goodies, including new songs, videos, and an exclusive Christmas EP.

The band is are treating fans with the deepest pockets to even more: framed lyrics, a sneak peak at their rehearsal space, and even a stripped-down concert in their living rooms. The band promises all contributors at least two albums' worth of bonus material by the time the project stops in early February.

Lovedrug plan to keep the site going — and the gifts coming — for two whole months, as they gather money to put together their new record. They're currently without a record label, so every little bit helps.

In the meantime, the band's new EP, EP-Part III, will be released next month. —Michael Gallucci
