- What we imagine the crowded bed scene looked like, but with less Golden Tickets.
22-year-old Michael C. Phillips, who told police he also goes by "Snake Eyes," broke into a Canton residence early Tuesday morning. Nothing out of the ordinary there, at least as far as normal criminal activities go.
Phillips, who apparently is homeless, entered the house and stuffed a can of noodles and a pack of cigarettes into his pocket. Again, nothing too strange, though noodles and smokes would certainly be considered Not a Good Score among thieves.
Maybe it was the lame take that led to what happened next, or perhaps it was the fact Phillips had nowhere else to sleep that night.
Whatever the motivation, Phillips ended his break-in by climbing into bed with the home's occupants around 2:45 a.m. According the police report, it seems they didn't notice their guest at first, but once they did, Phillips left.
Nothing like waking up to a homeless thief complaining that you and your wife are hogging the covers.
The Canton Repository has the details:
A police supervisor, who wasn’t on duty during that morning shift, read additional details from the dispatcher’s notes. Police found the man, who was wearing a dark baseball cap, peeking through a window of a home in the 1400 block of 13th Street SE and took him into custody. The report and court records identified the arrested man as Michael C. Phillips, 22, with no address.
“He told the officers he’s a ninja and knows mixed martial arts,” the supervisor read from the notes, adding that Phillips, described as roughly 5 feet 8-inches tall and 160 pounds, is also known by his moniker of “Snake Eyes.”
Phillips was charged with felony burglary and a misdemeanor count of possessing marijuana. He is scheduled to appear today in Canton Municipal Court.
The report said police suspect that Phillips consumed alcohol and drugs. He was wearing a white T-shirt and blue shorts.
The homeowners could not be reached for comment, presumably because they were busy bleaching their linens and buying new locks.
