A company in Brunswick learned recently that they made quite the unfortunate and regrettable hire when they landed a new employee who, by the end of his first and only day on the job, drew the attention of police.
His trouble began when police witnessed him run a stop sign. When they tried to pull him over, the young criminal decided to make a run for it, ditching the work truck he was driving. He evaded the cops who stayed with the truck waiting for a tow.
It was then that the owner of the company showed up. Turns out he was wondering just where in the hell the driver was. Of course, he learned his new employee wouldn't be coming back.
Think that's bad? The employee has had been hired at a bar by the owner's son, allegedly sold cocaine, and provided a false name. No "Employee of the Month" awards are in his future but he certainly wins our "Employee of the Day" award.
As the truck was being towed, the owner of the construction company to which it belonged arrived on the scene. He said that he had been out searching for the truck when the driver, whom he had just hired that morning, failed to return to the business on time after making deliveries. The owner had no contact information for the suspect, who was reportedly hired by the owner’s son after a meeting in a local bar.It was later determined that the man had provided a false name to the business owner. He was identified through a photo line-up as a man with a history of run-ins with police — including being wanted on a felony warrant for selling cocaine.
The construction company may want to reevaluate its hiring practices.
