Marc Dann Wants to Shutter Two Charter Schools. What About White Hat?

David Brennan. Occupation: thief.
The Plain Dealer reports today that Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann has sued to close two Dayton charter schools. The PD writes:
In separate lawsuits filed in a Montgomery County court, Dann wants to snatch the nonprofit status of New Choices Community School and Colin Powell Leadership Academy - both within the Dayton Public School district lines. Without the nonprofit status, the two schools would not be able to operate in Ohio as charters - privately run but publicly funded. In six full school years, the two schools combined have drawn more than $17 million in taxpayer money but have never come close to meeting the state's academic benchmarks or showing progress. "No one doubts that CPLA's organizers mean well and tried hard, but those undeniable [academic] facts show that the trust has failed," Dann said in the suit against the Colin Powell school. The New Choices suit contained similar language.
Ohio educators celebrated the lawsuit. But closing two failing charter schools in Ohio is like whacking one lousy terrorist in Baghdad, or canceling one episode of MTV's Boiling Point: Sure, the world's a tad better off. But what about the rest of the trash out there -- namely the miserable schools operated by Republican sugar-daddy David Brennan's White Hat Management. Is anyone ever going to look under this guy's big white hat? -- Joe P. Tone
