Mentor Scores Ohio's Newest Pro Hockey Team

While it's unfortunately not an NHL expansion team coming to the Cleveland area, Mentor is getting a brand new Single A professional hockey team this fall.

Starting up October 26, the Mentor Ice Breakers are set to play in the small Federal Hockey League (FHL), which includes the Danville Dashers, Carolina Thunderbirds, Watertown Wolves, Port Huron Prowlers, and a soon-to-be-named team out of Elmira, New York.

The team, which sports a shark mascot, is being led by Joe Pace Sr., who previously coached the Port Huron Prowlers. The upcoming season consists of 58 games October through April, and home games will be played at the Mentor Ice Arena.

Anyone interested in playing for the team can try out at an open call date, which has yet to be announced.
