Mike Holmgren Almost Made Himself Coach of the Browns


If the NFL and the players union ever agree on anything, Pat Shurmur will get down to the business of coaching the Browns, but it could have been Mike Holmgren himself, not Shurmur, who would be patrolling the sidelines next year as savior and overlord of the Browns.

Mike Holmgren told a Seattle radio station that he considered stepping onto the sidelines and making himself the head coach, and even ran the idea by his staff, but ultimately decided to hire someone else.

This is not too surprising. In his due diligence to find the next leader of the the Browns, it's pretty obvious Holmgren would have mulled whether he was the man for the job as he was conducting interviews around the league.

Pro Football Talk says eventually Holmgren passed after talking to his wife and praying.
