Mikey G's Weekend Entertainment Picks

This weekend’s top arts and entertainment picks around town, from the guy who’s paid to pick them: Friday: Every week on his public-access cable TV show, The Jay Rossi Project, the titular star shines the spotlight on Cleveland’s nightlife. At tonight’s JRP Fundraising Networking Party, Rossi brings some of the magicians, steel drummers, and live music featured on his program (which airs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on Time Warner) to the Clevelander Bar and Grill. The bash features performances by singer-songwriters Fionna Faulk, Jenna Lorine Fournier, and Sandra Bass. There’s also plenty of food and drinks. Saturday: The Hoop It Up 3on3 Basketball Tour comes to the Nautica Entertainment Complex today and tomorrow, giving hoops fans a chance to test their skills on a makeshift court. There’s a slam dunk contest, a three-point shootout, and lots more bucket-style action. Get your LeBron on starting at 9 a.m. Sunday: Montreal’s Mobile released its debut CD, Tomorrow Starts Today, in Canada in April 2006. It’s finally set for U.S. release on July 24 via independent label the Militia Group. The album -- loaded with classic alt-rock songs that are less convoluted than those by fellow Montrealers the Arcade Fire -- helped Mobile snag the New Group of the Year award at this year’s Junos. The group just launched its first U.S. tour. with a stop at the Grog Shop. --Michael Gallucci
