House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) is now offering a strange defense for his party's inaction in Foleygate: Blame the Democrats for not catching us sooner.
Earlier today, Boehner practically tripped over himself to throw House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Not For Long) under the bus in a radio interview. But in a quick return to the blind party loyalty that got him into trouble in the first place, he is now graciously laying down in the mud with Hastert in a
just-released letter to the
Washington Times, a conservative paper that is calling for the House Speaker to resign.
Boehner argues that Hastert had no knowledge of the "warped and sexually explicit instant messages" reported by ABC News, then goes on to suggest that someone —
cough cough Democrats cough cough — may have put partisan political gain above protecting the kids.
"We also need to know why these messages surfaced only last week, on the final day of legislative business before the November elections," Boehner writes in the letter. "If this evidence was withheld for political purposes, one can only speculate as to how many additional children may have been endangered before this information was finally revealed."
It takes chutzpah to blame the whistleblower for not catching you soon enough. Next up: Those kids were asking for it! --
