More Rentals Coming to Detroit-Shoreway Right by Tina's Nite Club

The PD's Michelle Jarboe McFee reports that a national apartment developer plans to buy 11 acres of property on Breakwater Ave. between W. 58th and W. 65th in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood with the intent to build as many as 248 rental units there.

The developer, Garfield Heights-based NRP, declined to speculate on projected rental costs at a design review meeting yesterday, but did say that the units would be market rate and that they would be luxury-products "within a reasonable price point."

It remains unclear what reasonable means, these days.

The conceptual drawings include 360 parking spaces, a clubhouse area and an outdoor swimming pool. (These are units which by the way will be within minutes of Edgewater Park, by foot). The units themselves, mostly apartments but also as many as 19 townhouses, are part of a near west side trend — high-end rentals to meet the growing demand for rental properties from an increasingly young, urban demographic — and represents the neighborhood's biggest residential building spree since Battery Park.

The current land is industrial, and is within direct stumbling distance of the Parkview and Tina's Nite Club. It's also just down the street from the Happy Dog. Just when you thought it couldn't get any busier, you know?.
