Funded by Akron realtor Alison McIntyre Baranek, this newest billboard is an attempt to convince James to stay in Cleveland, using the phrase "There's No Place Like Home" and a pair of ruby red basketball shoes. Located on the I-77, with a second billboard set to go up on March 28, James told reporters this morning that he has seen the recent billboards, but is doing his best to ignore them.
"I see pretty much everything," he said. "But I know what's important, I've always been able to keep the main thing the main thing."
Speaking to Cleveland.com, Baranek says she found it important to send a message to James to attempt keep him in Cleveland, despite the billboard's cost.
"I think it's worth the investment to get the word out to LeBron that his hometown loves him," she said. "He does so much for our community, especially the kids. Akron is so much better with him here."
