Roosted in Lakewood’s Birdtown district, Dovecote will house an unexpected flock of colleagues when it opens at the Screw Factory on March 11. Despite their varied mediums and backgrounds, jewelry artists Kathy Patton and Teresa Crompton and printmaker Sarah Darby share a vision of a studio/gallery offering finely crafted goods and a welcoming air, even in the imposing manufacturing space of Templar Industrial Park.
Darby’s prints express intensely personal scenes by way of stylized, dollish figures, kind in their essence but inhabiting forms shadowed in the melancholy and weird. Her subject matter roams over childhood and aging, motherhood and family, to fanciful speculation on the fate of disappearing honeybees.
