Crain’s Cleveland’s newest business-related ranking is a list of the region’s highest paid non-CEOs. The tough times are even hitting the heavy hitters.

According to the list, 2009’s top two working-stiff execs are FirstEnergy Corp. Executive VP Gary Leidich, who pulled in $4.8 million in 2009 — down from $6.7 million in 2008. Number two was Tim Pistell, executive VP at motion and control technologies engineering company Parker Hannifin Corp, who grossed a little over $4 million, down over 50% from $6.3 mill in 2008. If you see them on the street, do not give them change; it will only encourage them. If they’re going to get their take-home figures back up to snuff, they’ve got to learn to do it for themselves. — D.X. Ferris
