Numerous Bear Sightings Near Youngstown, Time to Break Out the Classic Fox 8 Bear Video (UPDATE: Police Use Strawberry Shortcake to Capture Bear)

First, the report from the AP:

Numerous black bear sightings in a suburban area of northeast Ohio have experts advising residents to keep garbage inside until trash day.

Police in Poland, outside Youngstown, received about 20 calls Tuesday from people saying they'd seen a bear that would be about 5 feet tall if standing.

In nearby Boardman, Linda Monaco heard something outside and saw her garbage can had been knocked over. She says she put it back, went back in her house, then looked out and saw a bear rummaging around in the trash. She called police, but they couldn't find the animal.

Hmm. Interesting. Surely this will be on some Youngstown channel's news broadcast this evening.

Which is the perfect segue to everyone's favorite bear-related news segment, brought to you by the fine folks at Fox 8 Cleveland:

A happy ending to the story:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) - Authorities in Ohio used strawberry shortcake as bait to capture a roaming black bear in a busy suburb near Youngstown.
