Last night was a pretty disturbing one down here in the Warehouse District, the neighborhood Scene happens to call home. According to various media outlets, in the wee hours linking Sunday to Monday a police officer was assaulted and another man shot. The incidents both happened within a few clock ticks of one another, but it's not clear now whether the violence was related.

According to 19ActionNews, the officer-assault happened first in the parking structure on West 9th next to Mallorca. The station says an off-duty officer was walking two women back to their cars when they were approached by a pair of black males in a white vehicle. The two men allegedly started bothering the women; the officer tried to back the guys off by flashing his badge, but the assailants got out of the car and roughed him up. When police arrived on the scene, the officer was bleeding from a broken jaw. Right now, police have only ID'd the officer as a 45-year-old male, but 19's Ed Gallack recently tweeted out he was named Sean Gorman.

As police were responding to the assaulted officer, gunshots reportedly piped in from one street over. Newsnet5 reports an as-of-yet unidentified male was shot near St. Clair and West 10th, a street that runs down the hill from West 9th. The gunplay was a result of a bar fight. Right now the victim is at Metro in critical condition.

We'll update with more information as it trickles in. Check back.
