Ohio Lands on List of Fattest States

Because you live in Cleveland, and because you’re stuck in this near-unendurable ranking culture that seems to always land the Forest City or Ohio with ignoble laurels, this week was probably nervously marked in your day planner: the week when the list of the fattest states hit newsstands.

Well, you can rest easy. Kind of. Ohio was not the fattest of these United States, according to the Trust for America’s Heath, the stick figure granola crowd responsible for dishing the freshly prepared public shame. That honor went to Mississippi, which, if you ever wander those swampy backwoods, you’ll see is filled such real-deal soul food that it’s hard to blame anyone for the extra plate or three.

Ohio was 13th on the list. That means about 3 out of 10 Buckeyes are obese, based on body mass index. So yeah, at least we dodged that bullet. Now pass the corned beef.
