The local star of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics is young Red Gerard, a 17-year-old snowboarding wunderkind from Silverthorne Colorado who grew up in Rocky River. Gerard took home the gold in the “snowboard slopestyle” event Saturday night, defeating two Canadians to nab the first gold for Team USA.

But the star of the NBC telecast was Red’s dad, Conrad Gerard, who was filmed on multiple occasions during and after Red’s runs wearing a Cleveland Browns winter hat and hoisting beers with friends and family (picture above).

Yahoo Sports columnist Jeff Passan Tweeted Sunday that Conrad was “ecstatic” that his son won a gold medal, but was possibly even more delighted by the endorsement of a Cleveland sports legend.
