Olympic Gold Medalist Red Gerard's Dad Wore a Browns Hat to Pyeongchang, Loves Bernie Kosar

The local star of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics is young Red Gerard, a 17-year-old snowboarding wunderkind from Silverthorne Colorado who grew up in Rocky River. Gerard took home the gold in the “snowboard slopestyle” event Saturday night, defeating two Canadians to nab the first gold for Team USA.

But the star of the NBC telecast was Red’s dad, Conrad Gerard, who was filmed on multiple occasions during and after Red’s runs wearing a Cleveland Browns winter hat and hoisting beers with friends and family (picture above).

Yahoo Sports columnist Jeff Passan Tweeted Sunday that Conrad was “ecstatic” that his son won a gold medal, but was possibly even more delighted by the endorsement of a Cleveland sports legend.

Red Gerard grew up in Cleveland. His dad, Conrad, was wearing a Browns stocking cap today. And while he was ecstatic his son won a gold medal, the happiest I saw him was when someone showed him that Bernie Kosar had tweeted about Red. "BERNIE KOSAR!?" he said. "Holy shit!" https://t.co/ouMY9KA7gD
