Photos: The Parma Rose Bowl Parade

You might have seen this already somewhere — WTAM was there to cover the event, it got some play on the Channel 5 news I think, and it was on the front page of the Metro section of the PD on January 2 — but it's worth putting up here because chances are good you might have missed it since no one watches the news and fewer are picking up the PD these days. Also worth it because the organizers are friends of mine.

Far, far away from Pasadena and the actual parade for the Rose Bowl on January 1st, a scrappy bunch of OSU fans staged their own parade in Parma, OH. Turns out about one hundred people attended (I was in no shape to make the trek to witness it in person), even the mayor of Parma. There were floats and cars, a homemade Brutus the Buckeye costume and an Elmo in Scarlet and Gray, and lots of freaking snow.

Organized by Brian Thiry (president of the OSU Alumni Club of Northeast Ohio) and friends, it started, if my information is correct, with a half-mocking suggestion from a friend. Maybe they would pull wagons and make some signs and march in the snow the morning of the game. Fine.

Next thing that friend knows, Brian Thiry calls back saying he's got the permit from the city of Parma and the parade now calls for floats and cars. Yes, this is how quickly things can go from funny fantasies to reality.

Apparently it was a huge success, and, judging by the pictures, everyone that skipped the frigid festivities missed out on quite the show.

More pictures after the jump, because that's the fun part.
