Please Don't Say They Looked Alike

The Plain Dealer is reeling from a series of embarrassments in the last month, from misspelled headlines to running the wrong pictures with news articles. The most laughable — and arguably deplorable — gaffe includes Eddie Jackson, the man who has been called LeBron James' father figure and one-time beau of Queen Mother Gloria James.

On Sept. 22, the paper ran a story about a disgraced ex-Cleveland lieutenant and convicted thief also named Eddie Jackson. But the photo that accompanied the story was not a mug shot of the bad cop; it was a snapshot of the King's acquaintance.

The paper acknowledged its mistake the next day. At the least, it was a careless error; the paper recently made a similar goof with the images of two deceased white men. But in an era in which the sight of a black MAN in a mug shot is a sad cliche, you'd think Ohio's Largest Newspaper — the self-styled bastion of high-minded, "proper" journalism — would show a little bit more responsibility. — Frank Lewis
